SECTION-I
PLAN OF EXAMINATION
The 3 phases in UPSC Civil Services Exam are :
1. Preliminary Exam (Objective type Written Test with Multiple Choice
Questions)
2. Mains Exam (Descriptive type, Written Test with scholastic type of
questions)
3. Personality Test (Interview / Viva)
PRELIMS EXAM PATTERN:
An aspirant has to attempt two papers GS & CSAT.

Points to be Noted:
- Negative Marking for each incorrect answer will be 1/3rd of the alloted marks for each question in both the papers.
- In Paper-I (GS), there will be a cut off mark to qualify for the Mains
Examination that will be determined according to the No. of posts,
Number of candidates who attempted the Exam and the level of difficulty
of Question Paper. - Paper-II (CSAT), is just a qualifying paper and the candidate should scorea minimum of 33% of the total marks alloted to the paper to qualify to
the next stage of the Exam i.e. Mains Examination. - Preliminary Examination is considered as a Screening test and marks
scored by the candidates in the Examination are not counted for the
final score .
